In Their Own Words

Wanphen Phrommasak

Beneficiary · Udon Thani

"After my father passed, the family was confused about what we owed the government before we could distribute his land. Phueng Counsel reviewed everything and gave us a clear written summary. It took about two and a half weeks, and the document was something we could actually read and use."

Trustee · Khon Kaen

"We set up a family trust for our three children through Phueng Counsel. The process was methodical — they explained each step before asking us to decide anything. The trust documentation is thorough and the explanation of our responsibilities as trustees was something we genuinely did not expect to receive."

Executor · Udon Thani

"I was the executor of my aunt's estate, which included property in Thailand and an account in another country. I was not sure who could help with both sides. Phueng Counsel managed the Thai side and coordinated with a firm abroad — I only had to deal with one contact. That made an otherwise complicated situation manageable."

Estate Beneficiary · Nong Khai

"My family engaged Phueng Counsel for an estate plan that covers our rice land and a small trading business. The process took about three months — longer than I expected, but when I saw the final document, I understood why. It addressed things I had not thought to ask about. Our counsel was also very patient with questions from different family members."

Business Owner · Udon Thani

"We used Phueng Counsel to set up a family trust. Our children are young — the youngest is seven — and we wanted to know that the property would be managed sensibly if something happened to us. The fee was fair and the documentation was detailed. The one thing I would note is that the process moved at a measured pace, which suited us but may not suit everyone."

Malee Srisuwan

Family Representative · Loei

"I represent my family in legal matters. We had an inheritance from my grandmother that involved land in two provinces and a small inheritance tax liability. Phueng Counsel reviewed the position and explained the options — we then decided to establish a trust structure for the ongoing management. Both pieces of work were handled well and the people involved were knowledgeable."

Case Studies

Three Engagements in Detail

Each situation is different. These accounts — shared with the families' permission — illustrate the range of circumstances we have worked through.

The Challenge

A family in Udon Thani inherited a portfolio of agricultural land from a parent. Four siblings were named as beneficiaries. The estate included a parcel registered in the parent's personal name alongside land held in a company structure. No one in the family had a clear view of the tax position, and the siblings were reluctant to distribute until it was resolved.

What We Did

We conducted an Inheritance Tax Liability Review covering both the personally held and the company-held land. The review identified that the company structure created a distinct set of tax considerations from the personal land. We produced a written summary addressing both components and recommended a specific distribution sequence to manage the timing of tax obligations.

The Outcome

The siblings received a clear written position paper within three weeks. Distribution proceeded on a structured timeline that spread the tax liability across two fiscal years. The family retained a copy of the written summary for their records.

The Challenge

A couple in their late forties owned residential property and a family business in Nong Khai. Their two children were aged fourteen and nine. The couple had no existing plan for what would happen to either the property or the business if both parents were unable to manage them — and the younger child would not be of legal age to own assets for several years.

What We Did

We established a family trust to hold the residential property, with provisions for how it would be administered during the minority of the children and how it would pass to them at a defined age. For the business, we drafted a separate succession note addressing how the business would continue to be managed in the interim, with a review clause to revisit the structure when the elder child came of age.

The Outcome

The trust was formally established over five weeks. The couple received full documentation, a trustee responsibilities guide in plain Thai and English, and a summary of the succession note. They reported that the process felt thorough and that they left with a clear sense of what they had put in place.

The Challenge

A family with land holdings across three provinces in the upper northeast engaged us for multi-generational planning. The family included an elderly parent, two adult children, and four grandchildren. The family also operated a rice trading business of modest size. There was no existing estate plan, and a recent illness had brought the conversation to the foreground.

What We Did

We conducted a complete review of the family's holdings and held four planning sessions over two months — some with the full family, some individually. The plan addressed the sequence of succession for each land parcel, the business continuation arrangements, and a trust structure for the grandchildren's eventual shares. We also coordinated a review of the tax position for the first round of succession.

The Outcome

The family received a coordinated written estate plan of considerable length, supported by a trust deed, three land succession documents, and a business continuity note. The process took fourteen weeks from the first session to the final document delivery. The family noted that the time allowed for careful deliberation that would not have happened under pressure.
